The end is in sight,
Time for the clear up
At last I have finished
the hedge row, now the full length of the ditch can be walked down. Absolute
bliss, the next thing is to phone the neighbours and get them to clear the
larger wood, cut through a few tree trunks, that were a bit too large for me to
tackle and that’s the field sorted, for now.
“Heck there is a lot of
wood to sort out, best get started” the neighbours are eager.
“If you cut up the bits
you want I will start taking the smaller stuff for the bonfire”
and so I left
them to it. After all these weeks of being in the field by myself it was
strange having other people with me, nice though. Hearing the chainsaw reminded
me of helping dad sawing up the wood for the winter. He always said that wood
warmed you twice, once in the gathering and once in the burning. I couldn’t
help myself and relayed this to my helpers,
“You know he was right,
it’s a cold day but we are getting quite warm”
I laughed and got on with the
clearing. When I had quite a large pile I popped in to see mother and fill my
water bottle.
“My foot is really
hurting again” mother gets gout which is painful.
“Phone the doctors and
get some more tablets to clear it” I suggest.
“No it will get better”
this is what I get every time her foot plays her up.
“Is there anything you
need doing before I go back out” maybe if I ignore her foot she will do the
sensible thing and call the doctors. (Worth a try)
“No I can manage
slowly” sounds cruel but I left her to it and went back to the bonfire.
The sun was shining,
the birds singing and the sounds of saws filled the air, it was a really
peaceful morning. We all worked well, the neighbours cut logs and took them
home and I, had a nice big bonfire.
“We have actually
filled our wood shed, this is brilliant. We have really enjoyed ourselves its
hard work but so relaxing”
“I understand that
feeling and I do appreciate your help with clearing up”
“If you get any more
wood just give us a shout and we will be over” bless them, I intend to.
Back in the house
mother is still feeling sorry for herself, but has she called the doctors, no.
“When are you going to
make an appointment for the doctors” I enquire.
“I have already told
you, I will wait and see if it clears up by its self” well I am not arguing if
that’s what she wants ……….
Over the next few days
mothers foot did heal and mother delighted in saying.
“See I knew it would be
alright, you youngsters are all too quick at phoning the doctors”
humph she
just has to have the last word.
Till next time
