What cannot be cured must be endured.
Because of mothers stubbornness

Calling in on mother today I am greeted with

“My foot really hurts, can you look at it”

“Have you done something to cause it to hurt” I ask

“No and it has kept me awake most the night “

kneeling down I had a look at mothers foot. There are no cuts or bruising, but the toe is very red and hot. It’s probably gout again.

“I think you should go to the doctors and let him have a look”

“I don’t want to go to the doctors” mothers being awkward.

“Ask for a home visit “I am trying to reason with her, but it’s hard

“No”

“Well you never know it might drop off, what will you do then” mother said it too us as children.

“Don’t be ridiculous” mother snorts.

I decide to leave it for now and try later. With the ironing, bed changed and washing done, I have another attempt.

“You’re finding it hard to walk why not, phone the doctors

“No” short and sharp answer.

“If this carries on you will be on the floor again” mother will get her foot seen too
“I will see how it is in a couple of days’ time”

Why are parents so frustrating? Well if mother will not go to the doctors there is nothing else I can do.

Over the next couple of days the foot did improve so the doctor wasn’t needed, the only problem I had was that, mother had hardly walked so her legs were getting stiffer.

“Are we going shopping today, now your foots better” I ask

“Yes, I will try” mother is possibly bored being in the house so long, so I am glad she is coming shopping.

“Right get all your bits in the bag and let’s get going” (grab the chance before mother changes her mind)

Off we go, me driving, mother annoying, quite normal.

Round the supermarket mother attached to the walker, until….

“I can’t go any further, my foots starting to hurt again” mother did look in pain.

“If you sit down I can carry on” I offered.

“No I will look a fool just sitting here” mother was concerned, so I had a brain wave. I sat her down on her walker and nipped off to the paper rack.

“Where have you been, you can’t just leave me here”

“I haven’t, here sit reading this paper, it won’t be so obvious that you’re resting then” now that I think is clever. Mother didn’t.

“But I …” she started to say

“You will be fine, see you when I have finished” and off I went to do the shopping.

When I returned to collect her, some of the staff had stopped for a chat.

“I have told them how you just left me” mother isn’t happy

“You were safe and I gave you the paper to read” (I really want to laugh, the staff just grinned) “how’s your foot now”

“Humph,” was all I got and the staff, they disappeared, giggling.

Till next time
