Fuel the flames of curiosity.
And you will live to regret it

Mother really enjoyed having some information to pass to her friends, it was have you seen what they are doing up the road from me. They are building new extensions to the houses and having new drives put in, must be costing them a fortune. There were oooohs and ahhhhs coming from the mothers meetings that she held regularly in the super market, while sitting on her walker. Me I just got on with the shopping.

One evening I was sat at home and I thought what fun it would be to look on the local planning application web site, to see what other people were going to build and let mother know. I found pages of applications that were close to her, so I printed the details off.

The next time I saw her,

“Mother look what I have found for you, pages of planning applications” I grinned.
“Oh where did you get those, let me see” mother is a right one for local gossip.

“On the internet, you can search the planning applications” me acting casual.

“You mean the computer, I don’t understand that contraption and don’t want to” mothers old school, pen and paper, look it up in a book.

“Have a read down the list and you will be surprised at the things that are being built” at which point I escape to do the ironing and change her bed.

Half an hour later I return to the lounge to an exclamation of,

“Have you seen what they are doing over the back of here and just down the road?” mother is transfixed by the applications.

“Yes I read them quickly and thought you might be interested “I laughed.

“I wonder is my friend over the road knows about all off this” mothers off.

I make a quick escape again, thinking was this a good idea after all.

Then mother shouted,

“I have phoned my friend and told her to look on the internet for the planning applications. How did you do it because she can’t find them and I am not reading all these out to her”

I wrote down what you have to do and left her to it thinking I have really started something now.

Finishing all the little jobs I do around the house, I made a cup of tea, collected the cakes and headed back in to sit with mother for a while.

“Did your friend find out how to access the planning applications” well I have to ask.

“Yes I told her how and even she is amazed by the amount that is being done around here” mother looks so pleased with herself.

“I expect that will keep the two of you cheerfully occupied for ages now” I chuckled “checking what the neighbours are doing to their houses”

“I think it is important to know what is going on” mother said indignantly.

I laughed and laughed.

Till next time
