Have wheels will go places.

Well mother now has a wheelchair and this means I can get her out more. Which is something mother has also realised.

“Can we go out to buy me some more trousers” mother asks expectantly.

The last time I tried to buy some trousers for mother I could not find the right leg length (mother is challenged in the leg department) and also she needs a wider leg at the bottom, as her legs swell.

“Of cause we can now we are able to get you most places, I will put the chair in the car ready” and off I go to dutifully carry out my words.

“Which shop are we going to mother?”

“That one I like on the retail estate” mother had made up her mind. (I have already looked in there, still it’s a trip out)

For once I managed to find a parking space right next to the doors, mother eased herself out if the car and into the chair and off we went.

“I do feel silly sitting in this thingmother moaned

“Honestly mother you look fine and with this chair, I can take you out so you choose your own clothes” (straight and to the point)

At this point mother saw another lady sat in a wheelchair doing her shopping while someone pushed.

“Oh these things are used quite a lot then by other people, I don’t feel so silly now” mother was quite chuffed.

That was it mother had a new game, spot the wheelchair users. Then she made a point of waving or saying hello as if she had just joined an exclusive club. Mother!!!

Round the shop we went, mother doing the royal wave and calling greetings to her hearts content. (Me I just grinned, well mother was happy.) Mother suddenly reached out her arm and nearly knocked over a whole rail of clothes,

“What did you do that for?”

“I liked the look of those trousers” mother said.

“Well be careful next time” I groaned

We looked at the trousers and guess what to long and to narrow.

“Mother I did say that I had looked before and they just haven’t got your size”

“They always use to, what is the world coming to” mother was upset

“.lets go upstairs and have a look round” mother was making the most of her day out.

Up to the top floor we went in the lift and found some bits and pieces that mother wanted. But could I find the lift again, no, round and round I took mother searching. There was the escalator and the stairs but no lift.

“Are we going back to the car now, I have what I wanted” mother asked wonderingly.

“Yes we are, when I can find the lift” I replied.

“Well I doubt it’s moved, where did we come out “mother being helpful

“I am not sure and there is never a shop assistant when you need one” I was getting really fed up now.

“There’s a lady in a wheelchair leaving the counter. Let’s follow her. Bet she is going to the lifts” I decided.

Yes the lady did go to the lifts, which were tucked away in a corner behind some stands. Not at all obvious.

That was an adventure and a half. The first trip out with mother in her wheelchair.

Never to be forgotten

Till next time
