Oh for the sound of silence,
The wind whispering in the trees,
And the singing of the birds.
Must get mothers hearing sorted out.
The preparations for
Christmas are well under way, well for mother they are. She is happily writing
lists and driving me mad in the process, I tell you Christmas needs a health
warning in this house.
I arrived to take her
shopping today, I let myself in as normal calling hello, to let her know I was
there, when I walked into the lounge she jumped,
“You frightened me
then, why didn’t you shout to say you were here”
“I did, but the
television is so loud you probably didn’t hear me, mind that’s your
cardiovascular exercise for the day” I laughed.
“That’s not funny and
the television isn’t that loud, I can only just hear it” mother is not
impressed and obviously can’t hear very well.
“While you finish
watching your program I will sort out the things we need” (help, I need ear
protection)
We went round the supermarket
with me acting as interpreter, or in other words being the person shouting in
mothers ear. When we returned to the house I was putting the shopping away when
mother put the television on. I could hear it as clear as a bell in the
kitchen. When I went in to the lounge it was deafening,
“Mother you will have
to turn the television down a bit its far too loud for me” I suggested.
This was met with,
“Then I can’t hear it
and its one of my favourite programs”
“Mother we will have to
get your ears looked at” I cajoled.
“Deafness happens when
you get older and I will not have a hearing aid” and mother is adamant.
Me I went out to the
car and came back in and sat down. Mother looked at me then demanded,
“What are you doing?”
“Putting in ear plugs,
I don’t want my hearing damaged” I just looked at her innocently.
I thought mother would
explode. Instead the television was turned down and I was told not to be
ridiculous.
Mind after the program
had finished mother did agree to going to the doctors to have her ears looked
at.
Till next time
